Navigation

During its voyage, the crew will use 9th-century navigational techniques. Resorting to modern GPS and magnetic compasses only as a back-up, the team will find their way by the stars, using a latitude-finding device called a kamal. They must also keep alert to changes in wildlife, sea colour and wind direction to help them navigate.
